Greenwich Mind and its services exist for the public benefit in seeking to alleviate the mental health needs of the residents of the London Borough of Greenwich.
Mission statement
Greenwich Mind has been in existence for more than 20 years throughout which time we have supported many people in the community who have been affected by ’Mental Health’ issues.
Our mission is to ensure that such people can receive a full range of support activities and services in the community to enable them to live independent lives as contributing and integrated members of the community thus improving and maintaining their general mental health and well being.
Main Aims
Greenwich Mind –caring for people affected by mental ill health issues will be able to:
· Access services and programmes which assist in assuring that they can live a life of reasonable quality in the community.
· Receive specific treatment for their illness.
· Cope with their condition and work towards recovery if appropriate.
· Have the opportunities to meet with others to participate in group work and develop an ethos of self-help with their peers.
· Develop social circles and recreational activities, which contribute to their quality of life.
· Gain new skills to assist in their personal development and working towards leading an independent life.
Participate in the management and development of an organization, which assists their lives.
Objectives:
The main Aim will be achieved through:
- Providing a preventative and supportive service to people living in the London Borough of Greenwich who have experienced mental ill-health or are in danger of doing so.
- Providing a centre, which offers a variety of responses to the needs of the local community who are under stress.
- Supporting people living in the community with mental health needs, prevent their admission to hospital.
- Educating members of the public about mental health and to promote a positive image of mental health.
- Ensuring equality of opportunity within employment practices and the services delivery of the centre.
- Involving members of the community and users of the service in the management, decision-making, planning and delivery of the service.
Core Value / Organisational Ethos:
Greenwich Mind is a community – based mental health centre, which works within philosophy that mental health is an issue for everybody.
- The centre is open for anyone to attend and we run activities for people who want to look after and improve their mental health.
- We work with an Equal Opportunities Policy that means we try to create an environment in which all people feel welcome, comfortable and respected.
- We accept the need to eliminate prejudices, discrimination and oppression and we attempt to challenge behaviours and work practices that put people down.
- The centre is user-led and users are elected by other users to sit on the Management Committee.
